A new history has been made in British politics. Hamza Yusuf of Pakistani origin has been elected as the new head of the Scottish National Party.
According to information received from London, 37-year-old Hamza Yusuf will be the new First Minister of Scotland. Hamza Yusuf will be the first Muslim and Pakistani leader of a British political party.
Hamza Yusuf is a member of the Scottish Parliament from Polk, Glasgow. His father Muzaffar Yusuf belongs to the town of Mian Chinnu in Pakistan.
Hamza Yusuf got 52.1 percent votes in the second round of SMP leadership elections. Against them, Kate Forbes could get 47.9 percent of the votes.
Nicola Sturgeon, former head of the Scottish National Heart, has congratulated Hamza Yusuf. Parliamentary Leader Ann Blackford in Westminster has also congratulated Hamza Yusuf.
Hamza Yusuf will take a vote of confidence from the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday. Taking their vote of confidence is a formality.
It may be recalled that Hamza Yusuf was serving as the Minister of Health of Scotland. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest member of the Scottish Parliament.
Hamza Yusuf first became a member of the Scottish Parliament in 2011 at the age of 26. He has also served as Minister for Transport and Minister for Justice in the Scottish Cabinet.
