Lahore: The Punjab government has left the wildlife department at the mercy of the situation, the crisis of officers in the department has intensified, more than 500 posts including the director are lying vacant.
According to the Express Tribune, the post of director has been vacant for the past several months in the Punjab Wildlife Department, similarly, 8 seats of deputy directors are vacant in various districts of the province, including the deputy director Lahore region, due to lack of appointments in government zoos and safari parks. The problems are increasing while poaching has also increased to an alarming extent.
20 posts are vacant in various districts including Assistant Director of Wildlife Lahore, Sheikhupura, similarly more than 100 wildlife inspectors have not been appointed while more than 400 posts of head wildlife watchers are also vacant while hundreds of other smaller posts are still vacant. There have been no appointments for a long time.
During the last year and this year, no new appointments have been made to the posts of director, deputy directors, while additional charges have been given to the officers in some places. But the shortage of manpower in Punjab Wildlife could not be met.
Due to the lack of administrative officers and field staff, the illegal hunting of rare wild animals and birds has increased tremendously across the province. The department is engaged in daily operations against those who play illegal hunting by utilizing the available resources. Very limited.
Due to the lack of director and deputy director, the implementation of many important administrative decisions has been stopped. Former Secretary Forests and Wildlife Punjab Shahid Zaman decided to bring together the staff of the Department of Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries in the field, but no significant progress has been made in this regard. Couldn’t be.
The current Secretary Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Punjab was contacted several times to take a stand on this matter, but no response was given by him. And important administrative appointments should be made immediately in the department.
