The governments of Iran and Syria have condemned the US strikes on Syrian soil that reportedly killed 19 people.

Washington claimed its drone strikes were part of a retaliatory strike, according to an Al Jazeera report. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Iran and Syria condemned the US airstrikes which targeted the strategic area of Deir Ezzor bordering Iraq.

In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said the US “terrorist” attacks targeted civilian installations, which is a violation of international law and Syria’s sovereignty.

“The US claims that it is there to fight ISIS in Syria, while Washington itself played a major role in creating the terrorist organization, continuing its occupation and taking away Syria’s national wealth, including energy resources and wheat,” he said. There is an excuse to return.

Syria’s foreign ministry criticized the “barbaric” US strikes, which it said killed several people and violated its territorial integrity.

It added that the attacks were a continuation of Israeli attacks and vowed to “end the US occupation”.
