Lahore: An application was filed in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The petition was filed on behalf of Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed, in which the Federation, the President and the Election Commission have been made parties.
According to the petitioner, the caretaker set-up should be terminated and a new set-up should be formed and the Election Commission should be directed to conduct the elections within 90 days.
It should be noted that 2 days ago the Election Commission postponed the Punjab Assembly elections on April 30. In this regard, it was stated in the notification that October 8 has been fixed for the Punjab Assembly elections. Law and order situation is not favorable for Punjab Assembly elections.
According to the notification, the government refused to provide military forces for the security of the elections and due to the economic crisis in the country, the finance ministry also showed inability to provide funds.
Reacting to the postponement of Punjab Assembly elections, Chairman PTI Imran Khan said that the Election Commission of Pakistan has violated the constitution by postponing the Punjab elections till October. Later, PTI announced to challenge the decision to postpone the Punjab election in the Supreme Court.
