Former Olympian Shahbaz Sr. met Atif Rana, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lahore Qalandars at Qalandars office.
Lahore Qalandars Chief Operating Officer (COO) Samin Rana and Director of Cricket Aqib Javed were also present on this occasion.
Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Haider Hussain also participated in the meeting, during which hockey league preparations and talent hunt program were discussed.
Former Olympian Shehbaz Sr. said that Lahore Qalandars taking steps to restore hockey is commendable, Lahore Qalandars management wants to restore the national game with good intentions, they will get success.
He said that I felt very good coming to the office of Lahore Qalandars, met the management of Lahore Qalandars and discussed with them regarding the players’ development.
Shahbaz Sr. added that Lahore Qalandars have done a lot for the development of the game across Pakistan, everyone has become their fan due to their work.
He said that because of the prayers that Lahore Qalandars get, they have won the PSL title for the second time in a row.
The former Olympian also said that my personal opinion is that even if we spend Rs 1000 million on hockey, we cannot promote hockey.
He said that hockey has ended in our schools and colleges, this game has not been popular among the youth.
Shahbaz Sr. said that hockey will be better if enthusiastic youth come forward. Holland’s example is in front of us. When the number of players increases, quality will come before us. At this time, there is neither number nor quality.
He said that hockey has died, in such a situation hockey will benefit greatly if Lahore Qalandars come forward.
