The Declining Standard of Education A National Tragedy

Pakistan is among the countries facing severe water scarcity, and unfortunately, this is no longer a future prediction it has become a present-day reality. As of 2025, Pakistan is already listed among the most water-stressed nations, and the situation is worsening with each passing day.
The country’s economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, which in turn relies on water. However, the quantity of river water is declining, and our existing water reservoirs (dams) are insufficient to meet current and future demands. Mega projects like the Kalabagh Dam have been stalled due to political disputes, while the pace of constructing new dams remains sluggish.
In addition, excessive water wastage at the public level, rapid depletion of underground water, and climate change are further complicating the crisis. In major cities, even access to clean drinking water is becoming increasingly difficult.
Every year, millions of gallons of water are lost due to outdated canal systems, leaking pipelines, and inefficient water management. The impact of this crisis is not limited to agriculture alone it also affects food security, public health, the economy, and social stability.
The need of the hour is for both the government and the public to recognize their responsibilities. Water conservation, rainwater harvesting, modern irrigation techniques, public awareness campaigns, and immediate implementation of new water projects are all critical actions required today.
Water is a precious blessing, but if taken for granted, this blessing can turn into a disaster. It’s time to move beyond just talking what we need now is action and awareness.
