New Zealand cricket team defeated England by one run in the second test match after a thrilling encounter.

Hosts New Zealand won the follow-on Test, leveling the two-Test series at one apiece.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was named player of the match and England’s Harry Brook was named player of the series.

New Zealand had set England a target of 258 runs to win the second Test, the visitors were bowled out for 256 runs in the second innings.

Joe Root scored 95 runs for England, Ben Fowkes 35 and Ben Stokes 33 were the highlights.

Neil Wagner took 4 wickets and Tim Southee took 3 wickets for New Zealand.

England declared the first innings 435 runs with 8 out.

New Zealand scored 209 runs in the first innings and 483 runs in the second innings after the follow-on.

This is the second match win by 1 run in the history of Test cricket.

Earlier in January 1993, West Indies beat Australia by one run.

New Zealand is the third team to win the Test after the follow-on.

Earlier, England won twice, India once after follow-on.

The last time India won in March 2001 was after a follow-on.
