Yesterday, a court in Tehran sentenced Jamshed Sarmad, a German citizen of Iranian origin, to death for planning and giving instructions for terrorist activities.
Jamshed, who also has permanent residency in the United States, is accused of masterminding the 2008 bombing of a mosque in Shiraz, killing 14 people and injuring more than 200.
Germany declared the employees of the Iranian embassy as persona non grata.
Foreign Minister Annalina Berbuk had also summoned the Governor of Iran on this issue.
He said that the Iranian official was told that we will not tolerate the violation of the rights of any German citizen.
The German Foreign Minister said that we demand Iran to end the death sentence of Jamshed Sarmad and give him the right to appeal under the law.
He said that we demand Iran to review this decision and change it, our response will also be very strong.
They said that Jamshed Sarmad was not given a transparent trial, he was not allowed to choose his lawyer and he was not even given consular access.
He said that we have raised our voice for permanent Jamshed Sarmad and we will continue to do so.
It should be remembered that Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence announced the arrest of Jamshed Sarmad in 2020.
