Lahore: Punjab Food Department has initiated action against the sugar mills for not paying the dues to the farmers.
Notices were issued to 6 sugar mills that did not pay 8 billion 42 crore rupees to the farmers. Cane Commissioner Punjab has issued notices under the Land Revenue Act to the defaulting sugar mills of 8 billion 42 crores.
According to the sources of food department, the biggest defaulter is Rahim Yar Khan Sugar Mills, which has to pay 3 billion 92 crores to the farmers. A notice of 83 crores was issued against Kanjuani Tandlianwala Sugar Mill. A notice of Rs. 1 billion 58 crores was issued against Rehman Hajra Sugar Mill, and a notice of Rs. 95 crores was issued against Madina Sugar Mill.
A notice of Rs 30 crore was issued against Adam Sugar Mill and Rs 84 crore against Ashraf Sugar Mill.
Secretary Food Punjab Muhammad Zaman Wato said in this regard that timely payment to farmers is the first priority of the government. No pressure will be accepted in this regard.
