Vegetarian diets are associated with better health and lower chances of cardiovascular disease, cancer and premature death, according to a new analysis.
Past studies have shown that diets low in plants but high in meat, refined grains, sugar, and salt are associated with increased risks of premature death.
The research also indicated that reducing the consumption of animal-based foods and increasing the consumption of plant-based foods can reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease and cancer. However, the overall benefits of these foods are still unclear.
In this new study, researchers reviewed 48 studies published from January 2000 to June 2023 and compiled evidence regarding the association of plant-based diets with cardiovascular health and cancer risks.
The latest review found that overall vegetarian diets had a strong numerical association with better health.
Scientists have learned that these foods are associated with reduced risks of cardiovascular disease, colon and prostate cancer.
Research findings suggest that plant-based diets are associated with major health benefits.
