London: Medical experts believe that drinking two or more cups of tea per day increases life expectancy compared to people who do not drink tea at all.
According to the study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the research team examined the relationship between tea consumption and the risk of death in populations where black tea was consumed the most.
For the research, experts used data from the UK Biobank, a biomedical database of people across the country.
The study involved nearly 500,000 male and female participants aged 40 to 69 years. who reported the average number of cups of tea consumed per day. These included black, green and milk tea with sugar. The experts also used the participants’ genetic information.
The study found that among regular tea drinkers, nearly 90 percent of participants drank black tea. And those who drank two or more cups of tea daily were found to have a 9 to 13 percent lower risk of dying from a variety of causes.
When the researchers looked at specific causes of death, drinking tea was associated with a lower risk of stroke, coronary heart disease and general heart disease.
