Organized 'bird census' in Karachi, various groups of citizens participated

The number of sparrows has decreased alarmingly compared to the past, Chief Conservator Sindh Wildlife

Karachi: On Sunday, various groups of citizens participated in the bird census in different areas of the city. The results of the bird census will be released on March 20.

“World Bird Day” is celebrated on 20th March every year. This year’s theme is ‘Love the Bird’. According to Chief Conservator Sindh Wildlife Javed Mehr, a bird count was conducted in different areas of the city on Sunday regarding World Bird Day.

Along with taking videos and photographs of the birds found during the campaign and noting their locations, groups comprising wildlife photographers, university students, social workers participated in the bird census process.

Common citizens were also invited to participate in bird counting activity, the habitat of Sindh Sparrow is the long grass areas in the riverine areas.

According to Javed Mehr, the bird prefers to stay close to human population. Compared to the past, the number of these birds has decreased to an alarming extent due to various factors.
