Ohio: A team of experts has identified 2 common complications during pregnancy that can affect the heart health of the baby in the future.
High blood pressure and gestational diabetes in pregnant women may put their children at risk for future heart health, a new study has found, according to media reports.
The researchers found that women who developed one or both of these conditions during pregnancy showed signs of poor heart health in their children before the age of 12.

For the study, Dr. Karthik’s team examined 3,317 mothers and their babies. 8% of these mothers developed hypertension during pregnancy, 12% had diabetes and 3% had both hypertension and diabetes.
The researchers then looked at the heart health of the 10- to 14-year-old children of these mothers. They found that before age 12, more than half (55.5%) of children had at least one risk factor for heart health.
