Lahore: Locals in Sahiwal released a 65 kg rare tortoise back into its habitat.

The local people had caught this rare turtle from a canal in the suburbs of Sahiwal, which had come ashore due to low water in the canal.

According to the local youth, the turtle weighed 65 kg and was not eating any food. Experts were asked on Facebook about the turtle’s breed and diet.

In this regard, the head of Mission Awareness Foundation, Fahad Malik, contacted these youths and persuaded them to release the turtle back into the canal, on which the turtle was released back into the canal today.

Fahad Malik, head of Mission Awareness Foundation, said that it is a soft-shelled freshwater turtle, which is called Praeer in the local language. These are extremely rare species of turtles that have become extinct due to pollution in the water bodies.

Azam Dogar, a local youth, said that he had been trying to feed the turtle for four days, had now released it back into the water, and would still check from time to time to make sure no one tried to recapture the turtle.
