South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been paroled from prison nearly 11 years after murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
His sentence will expire in 2029, until which time Pistorius will continue to face various restrictions.
The first disabled sprinter to win 6 gold medals in 3 Paralympic Games and compete in the 2012 London Olympics has been released on parole.
South African Oscar Pistorius, who lost both his legs, shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013.
Pistorius was sentenced to about 13 years and 5 months in prison, of which Pistorius spent almost half of that time in prison, he has now been released on parole.
Even while on parole, the 37-year-old athlete, dubbed the ‘Blade Runner’, will not be allowed to stay at home at set times every day, attend compulsory programs and not use alcohol or banned drugs until his sentence expires in 2029. While giving media interviews will also be banned.
Pistorius could be sent back to prison for violating these restrictions.
