How did Shaun get out at the non-striker's end in the replay? The knot is untied

After Shaan Masood was caught out at slip in the Sydney Test, there was a wrong replay on TV, after which fans raised questions on social media, but according to ICC rules, the umpires should meet directly to check the front foot no ball. Wally decides based on the footage.

On the first day of the Sydney Test, when Shaun Masood was caught out in the 26th over, the no-ball gave him a new lifeline, but in the 30th over, he was again caught by Smith at slip off Mitchell Marsh. This time the ball was declared legal.

However, questions arose in the minds of the fans when it was seen in the replay that the ball on which Shaun Masood was dismissed. In the side-camera replay of his broadcast, Shaun Masood was also present at the non-striker’s end. This replay was played on TV to show that the ball was not a no-ball.

Fans have raised questions on social media based on the footage. However, according to ICC rules, the TV umpires get real-time footage from four different cameras to check the front-foot no-ball on every ball. Where a clear no-ball is seen, a signal is immediately given to the field umpire on the pager and if there is any room for doubt, the replay operator sitting in the umpire’s room shows the replay of the no-ball to the umpires.

A TV director and a senior umpire involved in the cricket broadcast told Geo News that it is not necessary that the footage that the umpires are watching at the no-ball is the same footage being shown on the TV broadcast.

The broadcast replay of Shaan Masood’s dismissal is certainly a cast error, but the chances are high that the TV umpires would have ruled the ball legal based on the broadcast replay.
