Lahore: To combat climate change in Punjab, the European Union will provide 179 million euros to Pakistan, which will be spent on improving water and sanitation services in Lahore and Faisalabad.
The EU’s climate change grant agreement ceremony in Pakistan was held in Islamabad, signed by EU Ambassador Rina Cuenca and AfD Deputy Director Julie Marasavdan.
Under the plan, 179 million euros will be given to Pakistan, 12 million in grants and 167 million in loans and other funds, the money will be spent on improving water and sanitation services in Lahore and Faisalabad.
Speaking on this occasion, EU Ambassador Reena Kivinka said that Pakistan is among the countries affected by climate change, the money will be spent for the improvement of services in two cities of Punjab, improvement of water and sanitation services in Lahore and Faisalabad. Actions to prevent water wastage are also part of this program. The money will help Pakistan fight climate change.
He said that the amount of water in these two cities of Punjab has decreased by 5% since the establishment of Pakistan, we have to use water very carefully, with this grant the standard of living of the people of Lahore and Faisalabad will increase.
On this occasion, the country director of the French agency said that combating climate change is one of France’s priorities, 97% of AFD’s grants are spent on climate change, water treatment and water governance will be improved. Technical support will also be provided to Pakistan in two sectors
