Islamabad: A hearing on K Electric’s distribution license application was held at Nepra, with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority remarking that a majority of stakeholders were against the renewal of the electric licence.
During the hearing presided over by Chairman Waseem Mukhtar, Chief Financial Officer of K Electric Aamir Ghaziani told the briefing that after privatization K Electric has shown improvement in every sector.
According to Nepra officials, K Electric’s 20-year license has expired. A 6-month interim license was granted, which will also expire in January. Stakeholders were asked for their views on the K-Electric license renewal, with majority of the stakeholders coming against the renewal of the K-Electric Distribution License.
K Electric officials claimed during the hearing that 70 percent feeders of Karachi are load shedding free. K Electric has invested $4.4 billion after privatisation. K Electric has applied for a non-exclusive license. The decision about the new companies will be taken by the NEPRA authority. No accidental deaths due to electric infrastructure in 2022-23.
Subsequently, the hearing regarding K Electric’s distribution license was completed and the NEPRA authority reserved its decision regarding the renewal of K Electric’s license.
