Lahore: Smog reigns in the city of gardens despite the government’s measures, as a result of which Lahore once again ranked first in the world in terms of air pollution on Friday.
The air quality index in the provincial capital was recorded at 356. Phase 8-DHA recorded 457, Lahore American School 356, Kent Polo Ground 488, Aitchison College 389, Quaid-e-Azam Highway 545, Johar Town 308.

The city is getting colder as the temperature drops. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is likely to be recorded at 14 and the maximum temperature will be 26 degrees Celsius today, while there is no chance of rain during the next 24 hours.
On the other hand, the caretaker government of Punjab has also issued an official notification of a holiday on Friday and Saturday in 6 divisions of the province to tackle smog. 6 divisions include Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Multan. Meanwhile, markets and shops will open after 3 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, a hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on the petitions filed to control smog, in which the court ordered the closure of cafes in Johar Town at 10 pm. Justice Shahid Kareem remarked that the cafe is allowed to open till 11 pm on weekends, if found violating, it will be sealed.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till December 4. The court has called for performance reports on environment from various departments, on which the performance reports from various departments were presented in the court today.
