Rawalpindi: The court imposed fine on 3 accused including former minister of People’s Party Makhdoom Shahab in drug case.
The Islamabad High Court Division Bench announced an important decision that ephedrine is also a regular drug, on which the court acquitted 3 accused in the ephedrine quota allotment and alleged smuggling case, former Minister of People’s Party Makhdoom Shahabuddin, former DG Health Dr. A fine of one lakh rupees was imposed on Asad Hafeez and the main accused element Farooq Chaudhry.
The court rejected the pleas of Makhdoom Shahabuddin, former DG Health Dr. Asad Hafeez, the main accused, Farooq Chaudhry, who obtained and sold ephedrine quota. A case of ephedrine smuggling was registered against the three accused by the Anti-Narcotics Force on October 11, 2011. The accused had taken a position in the application that ephedrine is not a drug, so the case should be dismissed and acquitted.
On the other hand, the Anti-Narcotics Court summoned all the 8 accused for witness statements on November 16. Statements of 4 sworn witnesses will also be recorded at the next hearing. Former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Musa Gilani is also among the accused.
