Government's decision to ban import of luxury items through Afghan transit trade

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to ban the import of luxury items through Afghan transit trade.

The Ministry of Commerce has imposed a ban on luxury goods exported through Afghan transit trade. It has been decided to ban the import of various goods including tires, fabrics, cosmetics and tiles.

According to the details, the volume of Afghan transit trade has increased by 2.5 billion dollars to 6.71 billion dollars in just one year. Afghan transit trade has cushioned the impact of Pakistan’s import ban.

In this regard, it was told that the goods whose import is banned or the duty is increased are the same goods that are being ordered through transit trade, due to the reduction of duty in Afghanistan, most of the goods are sold in Pakistan through smuggling.

According to the sources, Ministry of Commerce has recommended receipt of revolving insurance and bank guarantee on 100% of the value of goods and FBR has also been recommended to impose 10% processing fee on Affan transit trade.
