Top officials of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been revealed to be involved in money laundering. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has accused the top management of the national airlines of money laundering, concealment of corruption and violation of foreign exchange regulation.
Apart from writing a letter to the Director General FIA to take action against the PIA management, the FBR has also frozen 23 accounts of PIA.
According to FIA’s letter received by Geo News, PIA’s Chief Financial Officer and General Manager Accounting are involved in serious financial irregularities.
In a letter written by FBR Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue Zone One Karachi to Director General FIA, it was said that PIA is in default of 8 thousand 845 million rupees in federal excise duty and allegedly government Also involved in money laundering.
The FBR has asked the FIA to investigate the top management of PIA, leveling serious charges of money laundering, concealment of corruption and violation of foreign exchange regulation.
FBR has also frozen 23 accounts of PIA in various banks, taking further action on non-payment of federal excise duty.
On the other hand, the PIA spokesperson maintains that the flight operations of PIA will not be affected due to the freezing of accounts.
He said that there is communication at the government level, the accounts of PIA will be restored soon.
