Confirmation of polio virus in environmental sample of Lahore

Lahore: Polio virus has been confirmed in the environmental sample of the city, which is the third positive environmental sample this year.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Nadeem Jan, the virus is genetically related to the virus found in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In the fight against polio, Pakistan is forming a joint strategy with Afghanistan.

The number of polio cases in the country has decreased since last year, but the frequent detection of the virus in environmental samples is worrisome.

Nadeem Jan said that they are keeping a close eye on the polio situation and have appointed top experts of the polio program in Bannu. Experts have given targets to curb the spread of the virus, ensuring all necessary measures are taken on an emergency basis.

According to the spokesperson, this is the third positive environmental sample from Lahore this year, while the number of positive environmental samples in Pakistan has now reached 17. Parents are requested to give polio drops to their children during the polio campaign.
