Islamabad: PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi has approached the court to declare the physical remand in the cipher case null and void.
In a cipher registered under the Official Secrets Act, former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi has approached the Islamabad High Court, in which he has filed a petition against three orders of physical remand. In the petition, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has requested to declare the orders of the trial court of 20, 21 and 25 August null and void.
In the petition, it has been requested from the court that the official secret act court’s order of physical remand should be annulled and sent for judicial remand. A malicious case has been filed against me with the connivance of the federal government. A case has been registered against me for political vendetta under the Official Secrets Act.
In the application filed by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, it has been said that I was involved in the investigation before the FIA. I did not take the cipher telegram, nor did I share its transcript with any unauthorized person. Records prove that the cipher is with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Despite all these facts FIA arrested me, got physical remand 3 times.
As per the application, the prosecution failed to produce any evidence, yet the trial court granted physical remand. Making the Federation and the Home Secretary parties in the petition, it has been further stated that the judge did not consider that the FIR did not allege that I was in possession of the cipher. In the FIR, it has been alleged that the cipher was in the possession of someone else. While performing his duties as Foreign Minister, he conveyed the message to the Prime Minister of Pakistan as per the law.
