Karachi: Star Pakistani cricketers have decided not to share gambling income.

Several Pakistani cricketers have opposed surrogate sponsorship, the most prominent among them being Mohammad Rizwan, who as captain of Multan Sultans participated in the PSL this year by taping the surrogate sponsor’s logo, in the same event. Some other cricketers also objected but were persuaded in different ways.

Recently in the Lankan Premier League, Babar Azam had already made it clear to his team that he would not put any controversial company’s logo on the kit, the franchise had accepted his demand.

Sources said that several star cricketers, including Babar and Rizwan, have decided to make it a part of every league contract they have. Also will not take their compensation from any such sponsorship earnings, started with ILT Twenty and Bangladesh Premier League.

According to sources, a clause in the contract states that cricketers will not put logos of alcohol, gambling, surrogate betting, pork products or adult entertainment sponsors on the kit.

The aforementioned companies shall also not be permitted to use the player’s images for any of their promotional activities, nor shall any of their fees or bonuses be paid out of money received from such companies, paid for other sponsorships, team or league ownership. The reason for this has been attributed to the religious, cultural and personal values of the player.

Sources said that some cricketers have put the same terms before the PCB and they want to make it part of the central contract. With the minor name changes being made, the PCB insisted to the players that it had to be done due to a lack of sponsors, assuring them that the existing contracts would not be renewed when they expired.

It should be remembered that during the Lankan Premier League, the photos of some Pakistani cricketers were used by surrogate companies, and they were removed by lawyers within a few hours after taking notice.

In this regard, a dispute may arise during the PSL because many franchises have signed contracts with surrogate companies. Remember that PCB itself has some such sponsors.

Recently, most of the sponsors in the Lankan Premier League were surrogate betting sites or cryptocurrency companies, some of the team owners are also reported to be related to them, interestingly, many star cricketers of Pakistan participated in this event.
