Lahore: The High Court granted bail to the accused involved in the attack on Chairman PTI.

A two-member bench of Lahore High Court comprising Justice Alia Neelam and Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard the Wazirabad firing case in which the court granted bail to co-accused Tayyab Jahangir Butt.

During the hearing, advocate Mian Dawood appeared in the court on behalf of co-accused Tayyab Jahangir Butt and said in his arguments that the police has arrested Tayyab Butt since November 4, 2021. At the behest of the Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership, the JIT revealed the arrest of Tayyab Butt on January 10.

The lawyer told the court that JIT chief Ghulam Mehmood Dogar tortured Tayyab Butt and took statements of his will on the ire of Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership. The prosecution has charged Taib Butt with conspiracy under Section 120B of the Pakistan Penal Code. Tayyab Butt’s role as a collective responsibility under the Anti-Terrorism Act has also been written in the incident.

While arguing in the court, the lawyer of the accused, Mian Dawood Advocate, said that according to the prosecution, Tayyab Butt provided the main accused Naveed with a pistol to attack Imran Khan. In the 6-month investigation of the prosecution, not a single independent and solid evidence could be collected against the co-accused Tayyab Butt. 5 JITs of Tehreek-e-Insaf government also failed to collect independent and solid evidence against Tayyab Butt.

The lawyer said that despite the lapse of 6 months, the prosecution is unable to complete the investigation and submit the final challan. According to the law, no matter how serious the charge is, an accused cannot be imprisoned for an indefinite period. Lahore High Court ordered the release of co-accused Tayyab Butt on bail.

During the hearing, the record of the case was produced by the prosecution in the court. The public prosecutor told the court that Tayyab Butt was named on the statement of co-accused Waqas, to which the accused’s counsel said there was no direct evidence of Tayyab Butt’s involvement or conspiracy in the incident.

Later, after hearing the arguments, the court granted the bail of the accused Tayyab Jahangir Butt on a bond of Rs 5 lakh.
