Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has assured International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director (MD) Kristalina Georgieva that he will not tolerate even the slightest violation of the IMF agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and MDIMF Kristalina Georgieva had a telephonic conversation.
On this occasion, Kristalina Georgieva, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presented a very good case for the IMF board.
The Prime Minister thanked the IMF for its support in the $3 billion standby agreement.
MDIMF said that the board was skeptical about the implementation of the agreement due to past lack of trust, and continued communication with the prime minister assured the board that Pakistan would fulfill its commitments.
Kristalina Georgieva said that she told the board that she had met the Prime Minister of Pakistan personally, found him serious about fulfilling his commitments, that the IMF and Pakistan have a strong partnership and mutual trust.
He said that Pakistan is an important member of the IMF, the assistance will continue.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he will not tolerate even a minor violation of the IMF agreement. This government will remain until August after which the interim government will come. I am sure that the caretaker government will continue to fulfill its obligations. If elected, he will improve the economy with the help of the IMF.
Shahbaz Sharif acknowledged MDIMF’s sensitivity towards the poor and appreciated the support.
The Prime Minister mentioned the best mangoes of Pakistan from MDIMF and said that it would be my honor to send him a gift of mangoes as a token of respect.
