International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Nathan Porter has said that Pakistan has taken steps as per the conditions.
In a statement, the IMF chief said that in the last few days, Pakistan has made efforts to restore the debt program, Islamabad has taken steps in accordance with the IMF conditions.
He said that the steps taken by Pakistan include passing the budget, the policy rate has been tightened to reduce inflation.
Nathan Porter added that steps have been taken to widen the tax net in the new budget while increasing funds for development and social sectors.
He said that measures have also been taken for better performance of foreign exchange and improvement of balance of payments.
The IMF chief also said that talks are ongoing with the Pakistani authorities to reach an early agreement and provide financial assistance.
Nathan Porter said that efforts are underway to quickly restore the loan program.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is optimistic
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is hopeful that a decision on the agreement with the IMF will be taken in a couple of days.
The Prime Minister had his fourth contact with IMF Managing Director (MD) Kristalina Georgieva today in a few days, after three meetings in France. The commitment was reiterated.
The prime minister said that coordination on the points of the IMF program will take the form of the decision of the IMF in a couple of days.
On this occasion, MDIMF said that they want improvement in the economic situation of Pakistan, Kristalina Georgieva also appreciated the leadership determination of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
