Karachi: Abid Naveed, CEO of Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services, says that the most sensitive emergency medical aid and patient evacuation service in Sindh is facing difficulties due to the irresponsible behavior of the public. 93% of the calls are fake or try to talk about irrelevant topics, which leads to difficulties for those using Rescue 1122 in an emergency.
Abid Naveed said that out of 14,000 to 15,000 calls per day, only 1,000 calls are genuine, the other 93 percent of the callers are obstructing the service and people in emergency situations, many of the callers are children. Children whose parents forget their mobile phones keep calling the emergency number 1122, there are also calls from unscrupulous people who want to check their mobile’s mic or hands-free. It has to be done.
Abid Naveed said that the irresponsible behavior of Rexio 1122’s network is putting a strain on the network as the lines are busy and people who are in genuine emergency are receiving calls from women even to know the biryani recipe. He said that there is a need to raise awareness in this regard in the society.
There are also legal and technical options to prevent unnecessary calls to Rescue 1122 which can be used if required.
Unnecessary calling numbers can be blocked but in such a case the fake callers will face trouble themselves and in case of emergency they will not be able to use Rescue 1122 themselves, Abid Naveed said some people make hundreds of calls daily. FIRs have been registered against 7 to 8 people under the Cybercrime Act against whom the law is being initiated.
