Georgia: Experts have created a foam that on the one hand absorbs contaminated oil from the environment and on the other hand can also absorb bacteria from medical devices and operations.
Experts at the University of Georgia have named it ‘Superfoam’, which was created by Hitesh Handa and his colleagues. The phone is three-dimensional and is constructed from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fabric. In the next step, tiny particles of graphene are coated on it while copper filings are placed which are known to remove germs.
The foam created by this recipe can absorb oil on one hand and also has the ability to kill bacteria on the other hand.
Experimentally, the foam was tested in water containing oil and it soaked up the water and absorbed the oil. It can be used repeatedly depending on its composition. Interestingly, foam adsorbs other contaminated liquids such as chloroform, hydrochloric acid and other harmful contaminants. Then the copper nanoparticles make it completely sterile.
Interestingly, copper nanoparticles make it an electrical conductor, which has other uses.
