Despite losing the majority on the part of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, it has been a year since the dissolution of the National Assembly.
The opposition had moved a no-confidence motion against him on March 8. As per the constitution, it was supposed to be voted on within 14 days, but Imran Khan did not, and gave the excuse that there was an OI in the Parliament House on March 22 and 23. A meeting of foreign ministers is to be held.
The Speaker violated the constitution and convened the meeting on March 25 instead of March 22, so the motion of no confidence was not kept on the agenda, while Speaker Asad Qaiser adjourned the meeting in twelve minutes.
On March 27, the Speaker adjourned the meeting on the pretext of mourning the late members of the assembly. On March 28, the meeting was held and the House passed the resolution to present the motion of no confidence.
The day of March 31 was set aside for the debate, but the debate was not held. When the meeting was held on April 3, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri took a step beyond the constitution and gave a ruling to reject the no-confidence motion.
At the same time, Imran Khan proposed to the President to dissolve the National Assembly, which President Arif Alvi immediately accepted.
The Supreme Court had declared unconstitutional the steps taken to dissolve the National Assembly and reject the no-confidence motion by ruling, rejecting successive unconstitutional steps taken by the PTI government.
