The Supreme Court directed the former senior police officer of Sindh Police, Rao Anwar, to approach the federal government to withdraw his name from the ECL.
A hearing was held on the petition to remove Rao Anwar’s name from the ECL, on which the court directed him to approach the federal government.
The Supreme Court remarked that inclusion and removal of names in ECL is the job of the federal government.
On this occasion, lawyer Safai said that the trial court had acquitted Rao Anwar from the case, there is no other case against him.
The Additional Attorney General said that the federal cabinet committee meeting will be held on Monday, Rao Anwar can apply in the cabinet if he wants.
The court disposed of the case related to the removal of Rao Anwar’s name from the ECL, which was heard by a 2-member bench headed by Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.
It should be noted that Rao Anwar’s name was included in the ECL on the basis of his involvement in the Naqeebullah murder case.
On January 13, 2018, in Malir’s Shah Latif Town, the youth Naqeebullah along with 3 other persons were killed in an encounter as terrorists and the blame was laid on the then SSP Malir Rao Anwar.
