Lahore: Nepra Chairman Taseef H Farooqui has said that most of the electricity is being generated with imported fuel, so people will have to bear the burden.
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Chairman Taseef H. Farooqui has said in a speech at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry that MDI cannot abolish fixed charges as their recovery is necessary to overcome the current account deficit. While electricity is being generated from imported fuel, people have to bear the burden, seasonal businesses can disconnect and reconnect, cold storage is not a seasonal business.
Lahore Chamber President Kashif Anwar and Vice President Adnan Khalid Butt also spoke on the occasion. President of Lahore Chamber said that they are charged 50% of their approved load under demand indicator charges.
He said that the electricity bill has to be paid without using the unit, if they use more than 50% of their allotted load, they will pay the bill according to the units used instead of MDI charges. Those traders are being badly affected by this decision.
