Lahore: In Punjab, the food department sent 4 proposals to the caretaker government to increase the prices of government wheat and flour.
In the proposals, it has been said to increase the selling price of government wheat from 730 to 1100 rupees per maund while the retail price of 20 kg of government flour has been increased from 360 to 625 rupees.
The current price of government wheat in the province is fixed at Rs 2300 per maund, while the current price of a 20 kg bag of government flour is Rs 1295 and a 10 kg bag is Rs 648.
The Food Department has proposed to fix the new selling price of wheat at Rs 3030 and Rs 1655 for 20 kilos of flour. A proposal to fix the new price of wheat at Rs 3150 and government flour bag price at Rs 1740 has also been sent.
According to the proposals, it has been asked to fix the new price of wheat at 3300 rupees and the price of government flour bag at 1848 rupees. It has been proposed to fix the selling price of wheat at 3400 rupees and the price of government flour at 1920 rupees. Besides, maintaining the current price of wheat at Rs.2300, the new price of government flour bag has been proposed at Rs.1134.
The caretaker cabinet will choose one of the proposals presented. Official sources say that the increase is inevitable to reduce the potential new support price of wheat at 4,000 and open market price gap.
