A new study suggests that healthy people taking daily fish oil supplements may not be doing them any good.

A study conducted at Sun Yat-sen University in China found that regular use of fish oil supplements in people with healthy hearts may increase the risk of a first heart attack or stroke.

However, long-term research has also shown that fish oil may be beneficial for people who suffer from heart disease.

According to research, taking these supplements in healthy people increases their risk of atrial fibrillation by 13%. This heart condition increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, while their risk of stroke was increased by 5%.

The study’s findings caution against the use of fish oil supplements because of uncertain cardiovascular benefits and adverse effects, said the lead researcher from the university.
