Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has said that there is no prohibition to hold dual citizenship to become a judge.

The Registrar Office of Islamabad High Court, while replying to Faisal Wawda’s letter, said that the Constitution of Pakistan does not disqualify citizenship or residence of another country to become a judge. No dual citizenship information is sought from any lawyer while becoming a High Court judge.

The Registrar’s Office further said that Justice Athar Minullah, on the letter of 6 judges, made it clear in the proceedings of the case itself that the matter of Justice Babar Sattar’s green card has been discussed in the Supreme Judicial Council. The Supreme Judicial Council approved the appointment of Justice Babar Sattar as a judge after consultation and consideration.

It has also been said in the reply that the Islamabad High Court does not keep a record of the proceedings in the Judicial Commission. The High Court’s press release explained that Justice Babar Sattar had told the then Chief Justice that he held a green card.

Senator Faisal Wauda had requested Justice Babar Sattar to provide information regarding being a green card holder before his appointment.
