Karachi: In a mysterious incident of robbery outside a bank in Kharadar Jodia Bazar, a motorcycle-borne robber escaped by snatching a bag full of Rs 50 lakh cash from a young man at gunpoint.
DIG South Asad Raza said that the incident appears to be suspicious while the police have detained the citizen for questioning.
He said that after seeing the footage of the incident, it is suspected that the young man who brought the money in the bag was possibly delaying going to the bank himself, he could have entered the bank quickly if he wanted.
In the video that went viral on social media, it can be seen that around 12 noon on Friday, a young man wearing a shalwar kameez with a bag hanging on his back is walking and slowly climbing the stairs of the bank and is also looking to one side and On the same side, the motorcycle-riding robber, who was dressed in a pant shirt and wearing a helmet, suddenly appears.
The robber takes out the weapon and loads it, after which the young man hands over the bag hanging on his back to the robber, who escapes with the bag full of money on his shoulder in a few seconds. The bike on which he came did not even have a number plate.
SHO Kharadar Abdul Rasheed Agha said that the youth from whom Rs 50 lakh was stolen has been identified as Sameer, who has been working at a wholesale shop of various goods in Jodia Bazaar for the past two and a half years. And he is also about 16 years old and a resident of Lyari.
He said that negligence was also shown on the part of the shopkeeper, if such a huge amount was to be deposited in the bank, then at least security should have been requested from the police.
The SHO said that the shopkeepers have also been asked by the police to ask for police security for depositing or withdrawing large amounts of money in the bank, but the police are closely monitoring all aspects of the robbery incident. Investigation is underway and soon the mystery of this robbery of 50 lakhs will be solved.
