The Lahore High Court annulled the victory of Legi MNA Azhar Qayyum from Gujranwala and declared PTI’s Bilal Ijaz as successful.
NA 81 Gujranwala PTI candidate Chaudhry Bilal Ijaz’s request was heard by Justice Shahid Karim.
The court while accepting the petition of Bilal Ijaz declared null and void the notification of the success of PML-N MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahra while restoring the notification of the success of the opposing candidate Bilal Ijaz.
The court remarked that how the Election Commission ignored the decision of the Supreme Court, whether ignoring the decision of the Supreme Court is not contempt of court, how can the Election Commission interfere when the election process is completed.
The petitioner’s position was that the petitioner was elected with more than 7,000 votes in the February 8 general elections. The votes were rejected.
The petitioner pleaded that according to the law, the Election Commission cannot issue the recount order after the formation of the tribunal, the court should declare the recount order of the Election Commission null and void and declare the notification of victory of PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum Nahra null and void.
