Sleeping less than 6 hours is associated with increased risk of diabetes

Uppsala: A study found that those who got less than six hours of sleep per night were 16 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes despite eating a healthy diet.

In a study conducted at the University of Uppsala in Sweden, scientists analyzed the data obtained from around 250,000 British citizens.

The analysis found that people who sleep three to four hours a night are 41 percent more likely to develop the disease than those who sleep seven hours. While people who sleep for five hours have 16 percent more chance of disease.

The researchers said that more studies are needed to further confirm the findings, but also explained that the findings suggest that a healthy diet alone cannot permanently correct sleep deprivation.

University associate professor and researcher Christian Benedict said the research results should be a reminder that sleep plays an important role in health rather than cause for concern.

He said he usually recommends prioritizing sleep. However, they understand that this is not always possible.

Type 2 diabetes affects the body’s ability to dissolve sugar, causing difficulty in the absorption of insulin, which results in high blood sugar levels. Over time, this can cause serious health problems. can deliver
