Committee established for maintenance of zoos and wildlife parks in Punjab

Lahore: Punjab Captive Wildlife Management Committee (CWMC) has been constituted for the maintenance and monitoring of zoos and wildlife parks in Punjab. Earlier all zoos and wildlife parks had separate zoo management committees which have been abolished.

CWMC, formed under the Punjab Wildlife Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management Act 1974, is headed by DG Wildlife Punjab, while other members include representatives of the Department of Finance, Planning and Development, veterinary experts and wildlife experts Sheikh Aizaz, Bader Munir, Asad Khalid, Ms. Dhofshan, Professor Dr. Zulfikar Ali, Ms. Uzmi Khan, Dr. Asim Khalid and representative of Hobara Foundation are included.

Deputy Director of Punjab Wildlife Khawaja Junaid said that earlier, separate zoo management committees were working in all zoos and wildlife parks. Each committee had its own priorities. For this reason, the administrative and financial affairs of one zoo differed from another zoo. But now a single committee has been formed for monitoring and maintenance of all zoos and wildlife parks which is responsible for purchase of animals and birds for zoos, purchase of food, auction of contracts, breeding farms, dealer lines for purchase of animals and birds. , will issue import, export permit.

Committee member Badermanir said that with this initiative, all the zoos and wildlife parks of the province will be run under the same pattern and principles, which will improve the efficiency of the zoos.

He said that the committee will also be able to exchange animals and birds between zoos so that by making suitable pairs of wild animals and birds, better breeds can be obtained.

On the other hand, the first meeting of CWMC was held in Lahore, in which the price of new entrance tickets of Lahore Zoo and Safari Park, development of Bahawalpur Zoo, auction of contracts for food courts in Zoo and Safari Park, opening of Lahore Zoo and Safari Park to tourists, big cats including lions and tigers. While enlarging the cages and premises, the procedures and fees for issuing import, export permit, dealer license, breeding farm license for animals and birds were discussed.

According to the sources, a proposal to increase the dealer license and breeding farm license of wild animals and birds, including increasing the entry ticket of the zoo and safari park, has come up in the meeting.

A minimum area of ​​10 acres is mandatory for a breeding farm, which must be fenced. Registration and annual renewal fee of joint breeding farm of animals and birds will be Rs.1 lakh.

It was suggested in the meeting that minimum charkanal area will be required for breeding farm of birds only. Registration and annual renewal fee will be 30 thousand rupees. The fee for a dealer buying and selling wild animals and birds is 50 thousand rupees, the fee for dealer license of birds only is 30 thousand rupees.
