On August 26, 2008, Mohammad Ahmed Amjad, Regional Chief of State Life Insurance Company, was shot and seriously injured on the tenth floor of State Life Insurance Company’s Building No. 2 in the limits of Mithadar Police Station, and he was admitted to Jinnah Hospital in a critical condition. He was transferred where he died during treatment.

Case No. 2008/298 of shooting to death of the regional chief was registered in Methadar police station in the case of personal assistant (PA) of the deceased regional chief and eyewitness Muhammad Arif. The police started searching for the accused involved in the murder of the regional chief after recording bullet shells, pistols and statements of eyewitnesses from the spot.

On January 29, 2009, the investigation officer of the case submitted his full investigation report regarding the incident to the court, on which the court declared the accused absconding, while on January 29, 2010, Additional District Judge South 4 issued a life-long non-bailable warrant for the accused. While ordering the arrest, the case was made subject to the arrest of the accused.

On October 29, 2010, the honorable court had ordered the FIA ​​and NADRA authorities to block the national identity card and passport of the accused, on which the Nadir orders were published on November 24, 2022 in the newspapers related to the blocking of the national identity card and passport of the accused. Advertisement was issued.

According to the District City Investigation Police, the accused Syed Taqi Shah fled to the United Arab Emirates after killing Regional Chief Muhammad Ahmed Amjad and settled there permanently.

More than 14 years after the murder of the regional chief, Mahim Amjad, the daughter of the deceased, working in the UAE, identified the accused involved in the murder of her father and the daughter of the deceased told DIG South Irfan Baloch on 18 November 2022. A petition was sent in which the victim’s daughter said that her father’s killer was residing in the UAE.

DIG South directed the SP Investigation City to start an inquiry, after obtaining the traveling history of the accused, it was found that the accused had fled from Lahore to Emirates on 24th October 2008, after which the relevant authorities were arrested. The authorities were requested to issue a red notice and a red notice was issued by Interpol for the arrest.

On January 25, 2023, Interpol informed that the accused Syed Taqi Shah was arrested in the UAE in case of red notice and Interpol has requested that the legal documents related to the extradition of the arrested accused be sent within 30 days. The police officials say that it is hoped that the accused arrested in the Emirates will be handed over to the Karachi police soon.
