Karachi: Despite the abundant production of seasonal vegetables, the prices of vegetables are skyrocketing, onion has reached a double century.

Despite the arrival of Sindh’s crop in the market, onion has become expensive by Rs. 80 in a week, the price of onion has increased by Rs. 30 per kg in three days and at the retail level, onions are being sold for up to Rs. 200 per kg.

The shopkeepers say that the price of onion in the vegetable market is skyrocketing, so the retail price is also increasing.

Market sources say that on a daily basis, 60 to 70 percent of the onion brought to the market is being stored in warehouses which are being bought by exporters, which is why artificial shortage of onion is being created in the market. The price is increasing on a daily basis.

Whether onions or other vegetables are also being sold at arbitrary prices, citizens say that besides meat and chicken, it is becoming difficult to cook vegetables.

Citizens say that the official rates are not being implemented anywhere in the city, there is no stopping the wholesalers.

Citizens have demanded that till the local price of onion stabilizes, the export should be banned and those who sell vegetables at arbitrary prices should be curbed.
