Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's execution case, set for presidential reference hearing

Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled the presidential reference filed against the decision related to the execution of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for hearing after eleven years, which will be heard by a 9-member larger bench headed by the Chief Justice on December 12.

According to the details, an important meeting of the three-member committee was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faiz Isa, in which the important court cases of the country’s history were scheduled for hearing.

Next week, the Supreme Court has scheduled the presidential reference against the execution of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto by the court, the constitutional petitions against Justice Mazahir Naqvi against the action of the Judicial Council, and the petition of former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui for hearing.

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Presidential Reference

A hearing on the presidential reference against the execution of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto by the court will be held on Tuesday, December 12. A nine-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa will hear the case, comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Aminuddin, Justice Jamal Mandukhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Hasan. Azhar Rizvi and Justice Musarat Hilali are also included in the nine-member larger bench.

It should be noted that six hearings have been held in the Supreme Court so far on the presidential reference against the decision to hang Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Former President Asif Ali Zardari sent a reference to the Supreme Court on April 2, 2011.

The first hearing on the presidential reference was held on January 2, 2012, while the last hearing was held on November 12, 2012. The Supreme Court has fixed the presidential reference for hearing after eleven years.

Former judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui appointed to hear the case

Apart from this, the Supreme Court also fixed the case of former Islamabad High Court Judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui for hearing. A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will hold the hearing at 11:30 on December 14.

The bench comprises Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan.

Justice Mazahar Naqvi also scheduled for hearing applications against the proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council

Apart from this, two petitions against the action of Supreme Judicial Council of Justice Mazahar Naqvi have also been scheduled for hearing next week. Justice Mazahar Naqvi has challenged the Supreme Judicial Council proceedings.
