In the study, scientists reviewed 10 studies published between 1999 and 2022 that included three to 11 years of follow-up.

A total of 58,121 patients from Great Britain, Japan and the United States participated in these studies.

The study found that walking at a speed between 3 km/h and 5 km/h reduced the risk of diabetes by 15 percent compared to walking at a speed of less than 3 km/h. Walking between 5 km/h and 6 km/h reduced the risk of disease by 24%.
