The Passport and Immigration Department has started using a new method of extorting more money from the public. Normal fee passports will be issued after 60 to 65 days instead of 20 days, while urgent fee passports will be issued in 15 days and fast track passports will be issued in 2 days to get maximum revenue from public for urgent and fast track. should be done
The department has started making the passport holders wait for 2.2 months under the normal fee and due to delay in getting the passport, people are now forced to pay more fee for getting it done on urgent basis instead of normal fee.
It should be noted that the fee for normal passport is 3000, urgent 5000 and fast track 12500 and only in Lahore every day 250 to 3000 people go to passport office to get passport.
On reaching the passport office, it is found that the passport with normal fee will be received after 60 days instead of 20 days, on which the citizens are immediately forced to get passport with urgent or fast track fee instead of normal fee. About 3,000 people visit the 5 passport offices of Lahore every day, of which 70 percent are making passports under urgent and fast track.
On the other hand, according to the passport and immigration authorities, the reason for the delay in making the passport is the delay in the import of materials from abroad. Materials for machine readable passports are imported from France and Germany. Due to the country’s economic situation, there has been some delay in the import of materials, which is causing delays in the delivery of passports.
According to the sources, the Passport and Immigration Department collects an amount of 30 to 32 billion rupees annually from the public in the form of fees. Despite earning billions of rupees, the import of material is getting delayed. 40,000 to 42,000 people from across the country submit the fee for making passports every day, while Passport and Immigration has the capacity to make only 25,000 passports. This is the reason why passport normal fee holders are getting their passports with a delay of 2 months.
Passport officials say they are trying to resolve the issue soon. This issue will be resolved by this month.
