Peshawar: For the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it has been decided to appoint transgenders in the police and establish special desks in police stations.
To solve the problems of the eunuch community in Peshawar, the first trans desk was created in Gulbahar Police Station where an educated eunuch will be posted, Peshawar police asked three names from the eunuch association for verification. Later this week, for the first time in Peshawar, a transgender will be appointed as an assistant for the challenges faced by transgenders, security situation, registration of FIRs at the police station level.
SSP Operations Peshawar Kashif Aftab Abbasi while talking to The Express Tribune said that there was a long-standing demand of the transgender community to create a separate desk for them, which has been approved as soon as the names are received from the transgender community in three days. The deployment will complete.
Kashif Abbasi said that the committee for the protection of transgenders has also been restored at the district level, the six-member committee will be headed by SSP Operations, while SP Security, SP Faqirabad will be members of the district committee for transgenders. Two representatives were also included. This committee will meet every month.
Along with the establishment of a special desk for transgenders, an open court for transgenders was organized for the first time in Peshawar, which was attended by transgenders from across the district.
Talking to Express, President of Trans Community Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arzoo said that since 2013, more than 100 transgenders have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, incidents of violence against transgenders are increasing day by day. Special desks will be established but they should be maintained for a long time.
Mahi Gul, a transgender from Peshawar, said that whenever a transgender is tortured, an FIR is registered, but the accused are soon freed. He said that open courtroom in Peshawar is the first step, if such measures are taken monthly across the province, it will definitely not only help the transgenders to raise their voice but also reduce the incidents of violence against them.
