Electricity rates in Sri Lanka were increased by 275%, adding to the hardships of the people.
Speaking to reporters, the Sri Lankan Energy Minister said that electricity charges had to be increased again as per the IMF conditions.
He said that they cannot get handouts from the treasury to maintain electricity prices.
The energy minister said that there is a need to generate revenue to meet the expenditure.
The Sri Lankan minister said that the increase in income would enable them to buy the necessary fuel for electricity.
