Karachi: Pakistan’s health tech company has developed the country’s first telepresence robot that will enable medical experts and physicians to conduct live examination of patients. The robot, named “PakRobo”, has been jointly developed by health-tech platform Educast and Innovate It.
The domestically developed telepresence robot is a major breakthrough in healthcare and health education, which will enable doctors and medical experts to conduct examinations from long distances, even abroad.
The robot is equipped with advanced communication facilities and sensors that provide the live status of the patient to the experts and through this robot the medical experts can communicate with the patient and the paramedics accompanying him.
The Pak robot can move freely and is equipped with a special laser lens that pinpoints any part of the patient’s body so that the paramedics who are with the patient can tell the details of that part. With the help of cameras, doctors at far distances will be able to examine the patient themselves.
Abdullah Butt, CEO of Educast, a health-tech platform that develops robots, said that the aim of creating RoboPak is to reduce the pressure on Pakistan’s healthcare system and the shortage of manpower. This robot will help the doctors in the wards of the hospitals to examine the patients individually and the specialist medical experts will be able to examine the patients under their treatment sitting in another part of the country or even abroad.
Abdullah Butt said that RoboPak is currently in the development stages and will soon be equipped with the ability to recognize vital and basic vitals medical indicators of patients.
A partnership has been agreed with a UAE technology firm that will provide a solution for Pakistan’s first telepresence robot, which will scan the face and eyes of patients to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, pulse. And will be able to get readings of other important vitals.
He said that major health institutes of the country are taking keen interest in this robot and after meeting the country’s requirement, this solution will also be exported. The Islamic Development Bank has also expressed interest in using this solution to ease the pressure on healthcare systems in the Islamic world and address workforce shortages.
The trial of this robot specially developed for the healthcare sector is underway at the national level, soon it will be tested in major hospitals and the solution will be marketed after further improving the performance in the light of the trial results. .
Abdullah Butt said that this type of robots are also in use in America, but their cost is very high, the cost of domestically manufactured Robo Pak is around 3 lakh rupees, which will be further reduced in the future. .
