In the Pakistan Rangers Headquarters, Sector Commander, Naval Rangers Brigadier Kabir and MD Water Board Salahuddin said in a joint press briefing that an operation against water thieves was launched in the city from September 17, in which Pakistan Rangers Sindh along with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board raided illegal hydrants, pumping stations, illegal connections and tankers. There are several operations against the mafia.

He said that as a result of these operations, the water supply in various areas has improved to a considerable extent. However, efforts are ongoing to convey the full benefit of the operation to the people. A large part of the operation against illegal hydrants has been completed. He said that 150 illegal hydrants and 1200 illegal connections were installed by the water mafia to steal water, out of which 100 mgd of water was being illegally stolen for commercial and domestic purposes, causing a loss of about 13 billion rupees. .

The MD said that the stolen water was not only being sold to industrial and domestic consumers at a price two to three times higher than the official rate, but due to water theft, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board was losing billions of rupees every month. Due to water theft, the consumers of areas like Baldia, Sait, Kemari and Lyari were deprived of water supply.

Brigadier Kabir said that for the first time in the areas of Orangi, Kasbah Colony, New Karachi, Clifton, Gadap and Baldia, water has been delivered to the end, while in the areas of Sarjani, Gadap and Clifton, not only the flow pressure of water has doubled but also the interruption of water supply has been reduced. If the supply has increased, the tankers registered in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board will provide water to the citizens at the official rate. He said that during the operation, the number of water tankers registered with the Water Board has gone up to 1900. 1600 tankers of the Water Board have been placed under a security code, in the presence of which any tanker will be supplied with a gun.

He said that by returning the stolen water to the system, an increase of 6.5 million rupees per month will be made, while 150 million rupees of the public will be saved, which the public was spending on water in the HTM lines in the municipality and the site area.
