Tension between teachers and administration of University of Karachi over house sealing issue

Karachi: The ongoing tension between the teachers and the administration has reached the Sindh government over the recommendation to stop house selling in Karachi University.

A meeting was held on Monday afternoon at the Chief Minister’s House under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Agha Wasif on other controversial issues including stopping house sealing. In which Sindh HEC Chairman Dr. Tariq Rafi and Secretary Universities and Boards Noor Samu besides Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi and the delegation of Anjuman Teachers participated under the leadership of Dr. Saleh Rehman.

According to sources, the meeting was told by the teachers’ association that an attempt has been made to mislead the syndicate by including house selling again in the syndicate meeting, while house selling is approved by all forums.

In the meeting, a clear position was presented by the university administration on this matter that if a matter was approved by the senate of 2005, it was included in the budget of that time and the budget is presented on an annual basis, so it was included in the budget. Annual approval of any head is necessary. Now it has been 18 years since this approval and the financial situation has completely changed compared to the past.

HEC, Department of Universities and Boards and Governor House have written at least 3 letters on the issue of stopping house sale so it is inevitable to bring it back to the Statutory Body.

According to sources, the Principal Secretary supported the position of University of Karachi and said to the teachers that it is commendable that you are getting your salary on time. will

It should be noted that the teachers’ association is trying their best not to include this matter in the agenda in any way because the elections of the association are also near, after which it is no less than a challenge for the administration to present this matter in the syndicate.

Besides, during the meeting, in the presence of the Director of Finance of Karachi University, his role was severely criticized, the role of the Director of Finance was discussed and there was a demand for his removal.

According to a statement issued by the Teachers’ Association for the teachers, during the discussion on the financial condition of the university, the representative delegation of the Sindh government emphasized that the University of Karachi should find new opportunities for revenue generation to improve its financial condition.

The teachers’ association welcomed the proposal but also pointed out that the management should look for other opportunities instead of increasing the fees of the students in the name of resource generation. It was brought and approved in principle.
